I was inspired to use the Mad Millie Draining Bag so I decided to go ahead and make my own almond milk. This was my first attempt making almond milk, which I know is a great ingredient in so many things and is a great alternative to dairy. It was so easy!
Not only is almond milk a good substitution for a dairy, almond milk contains no cholesterol or saturated fat, low in sodium and high in good natural fats. One of the best things about making your own almond milk is that you know exactly what you’re putting into your body, no hidden secrets!Did I mention that it’s also super easy? So let’s get started:
STEP 1: Soak almonds overnight.
STEP 2: Drain almonds using draining bag. Then transfer almonds to food processer. Discard almond water.
STEP 3: Blend almonds with 3 cups of fresh water for 5 minutes.
STEP 4: Pour the blended almonds into the draining bag and leave for 1 minute. Squeeze the bag to get all milk out of blended almonds.
(Optional: If you want a bit of flavour, you can add vanilla extract or cinnamon. I’ve added 1 tsp of vanilla extract)
STEP 5: Pour your milk into a jar, bottle or container. If you like your almond milk chilled, leave in the refrigerator.
This recipe made 750ml of almond milk.
Use it on your cereal, in smoothies and so much more. Stay tuned for our next recipe using homemade almond milk!
