Nichola Ludlam-Raine's 2019 goals

Tell us a bit about you, what is your profession?
I'm a registered dietitian specialising in diabetes and bariatric (weight loss) surgery. I qualified in back in 2009 and since then I've worked for the NHS as well as privately and freelance with food and fitness brands (I gained my personal training qualification a year ago!). I provide quotes to the media on nutrition related stories and often speak on BBC Breakfast. I also run my two blogs nicsnutrition.com and mummynutrition.com and corresponding social media channels.

If you have a free day on the weekend, how would you choose to spend it?
I would choose to go for a walk with my husband and baby boy who was born in November. I love being outside in the fresh air! I would follow this up with coffee and cake or a lovely lunch in front of a roaring fire.

What is your go-to quick and easy meal?
I love smashed avocado on seeded toast with scrambled eggs (cooked in the microwave for speed) and tomatoes. This is such a balanced, quick and delicious meal!

If you are having a rough day, how do you make it better? (can be anything, food, activity etc)
I make sure to go for a walk with my sister if it's a nice day and have a lovely warm bubble bath on an evening with a good book.

Reflecting on 2018, what would you like to change about the way you are living your life?
I would like to use and look at my phone less when I am in company. I spend a lot of time online with my freelance work so this is something that I need to work on!

How are you going to implement those changes in 2019?
I'm going to make a rule that other than to take a picture or answer a call I won't use my phone if I'm in social company with somebody else. To help I'm going to put my phone away in my pocket or bag so that it's not tempting me sat out on the table! I already have my phone on silent 99% of the time and have turned off all notifications apart from calls, texts and certain whats app conversations! This has helped my stress levels hugely.
